That contrast between silhouettes and blending into the hillside and sage was even darker in reality. The deer are very alert … just like the mustangs and elk and pronghorn. … The mustangs are a lot more tolerant of my presence. 🙂
They likely saw me on the side of the ridge with the mustangs long before I was aware of them, and we were still a fair distance from each other. Also, they know they’re much more *fleet of foot* than I am! 😉
I love it; what a lovely photo. I saw the first three watchers but had to look again and saw all ten. I love how alert they all are staring you down.

Great picture! It would make a really hard puzzle!
I think you’re right! With all those dark deer, it would be really hard!
Pretty obvious that there is more curiosity than fear from the wildlife!
They ARE very curious. 🙂 These are the does, though, so they’re not nearly as wary as the bucks (or the elk, or pronghorns, which aren’t hunted here).
What a bunch of lovelies! The mustangs have a lot of good neighbors. 😁
They most certainly do! 🙂
I love those guys. “uh- hello! What are you doing? Do we need to worry about it? No? Good.”
